Spring is in the air....grasses are greening, trees are being to bloom. It's such a beautiful time of the year!

We're back with spring-filled week of My Little Shoebox projects for you!

And a new Guest Designer as well! We've got something for everyone this week so don't miss a day!!

Please put your hands together today and give a warm welcome to Amy Sotolongo! Amy was one of the many people who auditioned for the GlueArts design team and caught our eye! So we asked Amy if she would join us this week as our Guest Designer. We were thrilled when she accepted!!

Here's a little bit about Amy...


I am Amy Sotolongo, a junior high special education teacher by day and a creative soul by night. I have been scrapbooking since 1998 when I was jumping up and down to find my local craft store was now carrying gingham paper, polka dot paper and solids in a variety of colors. I am still amazed at how this lovely hobby emerged into such a wonderful way to express yourself artistically. I love sitting down after a long day and unwinding with paper and glue. I have had the pleasure of being on an in-store design team, a couple kit club design teams and now I teach with one of my best friends at local scrapbook stores. I have been married to the love of my life, Josh for ten years and we love to travel. Over the last two summers I have had the pleasure of visiting Ireland, England, France, Italy and Spain. I have a need to see as much of this world as I can. I also love to bake sweet treats for those I love. A new recipe is always on my counter in hopes of satisfying my sweet tooth. Anything chocolate and I'm sold!


We sent Amy some GlueArts products along with a My Little Shoebox kit and asked her to create away...here's the first of Amy's beautiful projects to share with you!!

Glue Glider Pro with Perma Tac cartridge, 3D UCut It Combo Pack, Extreme Tac Mini Adhesive Squares
My Little Shoebox Home Tweet Home Collection:
Patterned Paper, Journaling Die Cuts, Cardstock Stickers, Letter Stickers
other supplies:
Jenni Bowlin (chewing gum ink), Marvy Le Pen (black ink), Fiskars (silver paint pen), bubblewrap

Instructions:
-cut patterned paper 5 x 12 inches, fold & score.
-using MLS border die cut (green bracket), trace middle onto bottom of card & out (the bottom of your card will have the same shape as the border die cut)

-take your bubble wrap (just a small square will do) & ink up the bubbles
-place bubble wrap on base of card (creating polka dots)
-place green die cut border near bottom, close to edge; trim sides.
-place the pink loop border slightly above green border, using 3D UCut it Foam:

-place oval journaling die cut to right of card, on top of pink border. Put 3D adhesive under top so it will stand slightly up, giving it more dimension.
-place "cutie" in middle, using letter stickers
-place " hi there" rigth above oval
-using 3D adhesive, place pink bird sticker to left of oval
-again..using 3D adhesive, place various flowers (cut from patterned paper) under exclamation point and as the dots to both "i's"
-using black pen, trace around letters to give more dimension
-cut green flower die cut in half and place at top right of card
-using 3D adhesive, place pink flower on top
-place tiny yellow bird (cut from patterned paper) slightly above, coming off card

I went through my stash old layouts a while ago and I found some photos that weren't too well represented by the layouts they were on, SO, a revamp was needed. The My Little Shoebox line was the perfect fit for this photo of my Alyson. Oh how I miss those chubby cheeks.

Erin is so sweet and fun and I was very fortunate to meet her as well at the Winter CHA! Here's a bit about Erin!!


Erin Yamabe, is a Bay Area native, and is a SAHM to two little girls, who are the main subject of her work!  She is very grateful to have discovered this amazing hobby, after the birth of her older daughter, and has not looked back since.  She is thankful to have a very supportive and understanding husband, who doesn't quite get her obsession over paper and glue.  She is active in her community, daughter's schools, and church.  As a DT Coordinator, Designer, and Teacher for My Little Shoebox, she finds her job to be challenging, fun and very fulfilling!  Her work can be found in magazines in the U.S. and in Japan.

Recycle, Reuse & Repurpose!


Three words you hear more and more often each day as we as a society strive to find new ways to breathe life into items and objects that in the past were headed to the trash.


There's a new, renewed trend with the growth in the crafting industry to try to find a new way to give life back to clothing, household decor, toys, books and yes....trash.


We're excited to kick off National Craft Month by announcing our first GlueArts Recycle, Reuse & Repurpose Challenge!


GlueArts invites crafters to celebrate National Craft Month by submitting an original crafted project using recycled, repurposed or reusable items and at least one GlueArts product for a chance to win a prize package worth $250.


Projects must contain at least one recycled, repurposed or reusable item and at least one GlueArts product (see products at www.gluearts.com).  Submissions must include a photo and a description of project.  Contestants should include a photo on the description page (contestant names should not appear on photos). Descriptions must include a materials list and how the GlueArts product(s) was used.   Project photos must include the GlueArts product that was used. 

All project photos and descriptions must be submitted by March 18 to gluegirl@gluearts.com. 

All projects will be judged on originality and creative use of recycled item(s) and GlueArts adhesives.  One winner will be chosen to receive an amazing gift basket of products from GlueArts, Hero Arts, Plaid, a Provocraft Cuttlebug and Westcott products, valued at more than $250. 

Celebrity judges include Modern Surrealist, Marisa Pawelko (www.modernsurrealist.com), Plaid’s social media manager Amy Anderson (http://www.modpodgerocksblog.com/), Jenny Barnett Rohr founder of Craft Test Dummies (http://www.crafttestdummies.com/) and the Craft Mom and GlueArts social media manager Julia Sandvoss (www.thecraftmom.blogspot.com).

The winning project will be announced on Monday, March 21 and will be featured on the GlueArts blog and website.

Suessical Shirt

Directions:

Being a teacher, I am really excited about this coming week. It is Read Across America Week and we celebrate the wonderful author, Dr. Seuss. I couldn't find a Dr. Seuss shirt that I liked for my daughter, so I made one!

I knew I wanted to focus on the popular red and white hat, so I found a coloring page and printed it out.  

  I then cut apart each stripe and pinned it onto the corresponding felt. I simply cut around and set the pieces aside.

After I completed the hat, I added the Fabric Bond to the wrong side of the felt.

Then I pressed to an old t-shirt of my daughter's and got it ready to sew.

You could leave the shirt this way, but if you do be sure to roll the fabric bond to the edge of what you want set on the shirt.

Of course I couldn't leave well enough alone and decided to stitch the edges. As you can see it didn't come out perfect - but that's ok - I think it is pretty darn cute!

Ribbon Wrapped Wreaths & Valentine Kids Crafts!!!

It's Day 3 of our fun week with May Arts Ribbons!! Today we have Ribbon Wrapped Wreaths and Pixie Stick Flowers that are cute enough to....well eat!

Designer Michelle Lanning has a beautiful wreath that uses crepe paper, ribbon, wreath form and our must have Hot Glue Gun....simple....

And Designer Lindsay Wahl has a sweet craft perfect for those upcoming Valentine parties and more!

Ribbon Wreath

Designer: Michelle Lanning

Supplies:

Glue Arts: Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Mini wreath form from Michael's
May Arts Ribbon & lots of it!
Crepe Paper
Jute

First start by wrapping the entire wreath with crepe paper. 

Cut ribbon into 3.5 inch strips. 

Sew them together and then hot glue from the center of the wreath out. Continue and alternate ribbons to your liking.

I finished the wreath off by making a little flower from the elastic gingham ribbon.

I hope you like this! It really is a quick project and comes out too cute!

"Flowers for a sweetie"

Designer Tip: I purposefully made this a "simple" project that could be completed with an elementary classroom, a girl scout troop, a church group, etc. Even my 3-year-old would be able to help me with several of the steps on this project. Just make sure the soup can is free from sharp edges. You can always add a ring of tape to the inside to be safe. Enjoy! 

Supplies:

Glue Arts Adhesives: 3-d Combo Pack, Adhesive Squares, Ribbon Adhesive

Die cuts: Little Yellow Bicycle

Pixie Stix

Soup can

Twine: The Twinery

Instructions:

1. Trim ribbon so that it will fit your soup can. Use Ribbon Adhesive to adhere ribbon to the can. I used two strips of adhesive because the ribbon is so wide. Remember to burnish the liner before removing to make sure adhesive transfers to the ribbon. Have all of the seams line up on the front of the can. They will be covered.

2. Use Adhesive Squares to adhere chipboard pieces to the front of the can. Use foam adhesive to give a few hearts added dimension.

3. Use twine to tie Pixie Stix together (I tied 4 in a bundle.). Use Adhesive Squares to add die cut flowers to the bundled stems.

4. Arrange flowers in can. I used some extra ribbon inside the can to help the flowers stand. You could also use tissue or floral foam.
