We're rapidly approaching the month of May!
May typically reminds us to celebrate Mother's....women!
Today's projects are both wonderful ways to celebrate that special woman in your life! Designer Patti Milazzo has a special plaque for Mom! How beautiful of a gift to have sitting on a stand in a special place in your special someone's home. Consider adding a photo to it for a personal touch! Designer Leslie Ashe is celebrating a special someone in her life...her daughter! This layout can be adapted for a special "she" in your life!
Patti and Leslie's projects offer a reminder of how beautifully Maya Road and GlueArts products complement one another and provide the perfect tools for your special gifts and memories!!
Supplies:

Maya Road:
Chipboard Shapes; Pins; Canvas Heart
Other: Crate Paper Restoration pattern paper and stickers; chipboard; buttons, beads, pearl and crystal gems; ink spray; hemp
Instructions:
1. Cut an 8” x 8” piece of chipboard and a piece of pattern paper the same size for the background of the plaque. Ink and distress the edges of the pattern paper. Machine stitch around the paper twice – do not adhere to the chipboard just yet.
2. To frame the Maya Road canvas heart, cut a 4 ½” x 6” piece of pattern paper – trim a scallop edge on one end, score 1” past the scallop and fold over. Add a strip of contrasting pattern paper and machine stitch across. Adhere this to the bottom left corner of the pattern paper square.
3. I selected a variety of the Maya Road small chipboard pieces to use on the plaque, including pieces to create a small banner as well as use a mix of flowers, hears and the label chipboard oval. I painted each of these pieces with a warm white acrylic paint and let it dry. Then I lightly sprayed the chipboard and the canvas with ink as well as inking the edges. I then set it all aside and to dry thoroughly.
4. Next, I attached the canvas heart near the bottom left of the square with Mini Adhesive. I used just a few pieces since I planned to do a little stitching across the heart.
5. I also die cut a scroll shape from yellow pattern paper. I used the Glue Glider Pro to apply small amounts of High Tac Adhesive to a few of the wider parts of the die cut and adhered the scroll over the heart. I machine stitched over the scroll.
6. Now the embellished pattern paper square (with the scallop frame and canvas heart) can be adhered to the 8” chipboard square with High Tac Adhesive using the Glue Glider Pro.
7. To create the banner, I strung together 3 Maya Road banner chipboard shapes along with a few coordinating beads on a piece of hemp.
8. I punched circles for the center of each banner shape, punched a small heart to fit inside the heart shaped chipboard and die cut 2 – M’s. I layered these pieces and adhered the circles to the banners with the U-Cut-It Adhesive Foam.
9. Once I had the banner positioned correctly – not too low or strung too straight – I tied knots through 2 holes that I punched in the corners of the plaque square. Then I applied small U-Cut-It Adhesive Foam squares to the back of each banner flag to give the banner more dimension.
10. For the flowers, I layered the chipboard flowers with similarly shaped flower punches using the Mini Adhesive Squares to adhere the pieces together. Also, I traced a heart chipboard frame onto the chipboard oval label, doodled a scallop border and then adhered the heart frame onto the oval. I adhered a small heart shape punch inside the frame and filled it with a crackle medium. Once the crackle medium dried, I attached the chipboard oval label to the lower left corner with an Extreme Adhesive Square and mini brads.
11. I also used the Extreme Adhesive Squares to adhere the flowers to the canvas heart. I embellished the flower centers with cut out paper flower shapes, buttons and pearl accents by securing them with Mini Adhesive Squares.
12. I added additional beads to the Maya Road Pins and inserted them just behind the larger paper/chipboard layered flower. I tucked stickers under the flower petals and adhered a 3 layer butterfly just below the flower.
13. For the final part of the plaque, I created 2 scallop pleated flower circles from pattern paper. I secured the accordion folded flowers onto punched paper circles using the hot Glue Gun. The Glue Gun sets the accordion folded circles securely without worry that they’ll come undone. I added a chipboard flower and a pattern paper covered chipboard circle along with a Maya Road floral accent and button to the centers of the pleated flowers.
14. Finally, I completed the project by adding a bit of glitter glue.
