Me & My Girls Special Mini Album

We invited Designer Cheri Wenger to join us for today's post!

Cheri has a beautiful family and style! Today she showcases both in a special album using Maya Road products and GlueArts adhesives!

Me & My Girls Album

Designer: Cheri Wenger

Techniques:

Use items in your cabinets, such as cotton balls, foil, plastic wrap, cardboard packaging & parchment paper, to aid in crafting. Also, learn how to make a textured crinkled ribbon flower using ribbons, a brad, some foil, chipboard and a heat embossing tool.

Other: Old Spiral Notepad; Pencil; Cotton Balls; Aluminum Foil; Plastic Wrap; Parchment paper; vellum or tissue paper.

Instructions:

1. Tip: When you want to cover chipboard shapes with patterned papers, here is a tip that will help you align the paper with the shape. To accomplish this, simply raid your pantry for parchment paper or use tissue paper or a scrap of vellum. Trace the shape with a permanent marker, then position on top of your patterned paper. For this project, use the sign shape for tracing.

Then place the outline on top of the patterned paper to determine what area you want to use. Next, place chipboard on top of the outline. Lift up, slip out traced outline, then place chipboard back in place. Trace around chipboard shape in pencil and cut out with paper snips. Use extreme adhesive with Glue Glider™ Pro to attach to chipboard.

2. To create the covers of this album, I used an old 6” x 9” notepad. Cut spiral ends with craft scissors and uncoil binding. Trim covers to 8.5” x 5-15/16”.

Use sturdier panel for front cover. Cover Insides with lime green glitter and outside front with flower print and back with circle patterned paper.

3. Place a canvas fabric heart onto a piece of plastic wrap and mist with walnut antiquing ink.

Blot ink with cotton ball. Mist to get desired results. For this, at misted darker than desired,

So I turned it over and liked the back side ink markings better. I blotted onto pooled ink on plastic wrap til complete. See examples below. Set aside to dry.

4. Cut varied size loops of pink organza ribbon ranging from 3” – 5.5” lengths. Arrange these at alternating angles with shorter layers pierced through the top of the decorative metal brad and mid size to longer layers at angles layered behind them. Use an extended reach punch to make a hole in scrap chipboard and secure brad through hole. Wrap foil around it. Heat Ribbons with heat tool and watch them crinkle up to create an antique looking flower. Remove from chipboard and place through grommet on heart and fasten in back.

When canvas heart is dry add extreme adhesive to back side. If it is too bulky, you can apply adhesive before inserting flower.

Using Pro and extreme adhesive, attach it to top left of front album cover. Cover oval chipboard piece with plainer section of floral paper. Be sure to trace onto CS in pencil prior to attaching to chipboard. Punch holes with Crop-A-Dile. Cut a 24” long piece of magenta organza ribbon and cut points on ends for threading through holes in oval chipboard. Wrap ribbon around front album cover and tie bow on right side. Add chipboard letters on top.

Edge CS with wedge of brown pigment ink. Use your other hand to lift away from album while doing this. (I needed both hands to take the photo so I couldn’t show this in image).

Using brown marker, add “&” sign between letters and add pearl as a dot above “i”. Cut flower head out of remaining floral CS with snips and cut small pieces of U-Cut-It foam adhesive to raise up on bottom of album cover. Apply on top of brown stems. Use extreme mini adhesive squares on the back of teal flower and attach below label. Add mini adhesive pearls to center. (Refer to image in step 7, below).

5. Cut vellum sheet into two 2” long pieces and apply to back of vellum phrase trimmed to fit on top of covered sign chipboard. (Make sure that the two pieces butt up on back side of vellum.) Add to top of covered chipboard, edged in brown ink. Trim overlap with snips.

Attach with Pro and extreme adhesive to back side of cover. Use extreme mini adhesive squares to add leaves, petals, paper flowers and brown plastic flower centers to embellish.

6. Punch two holes in album front cover. Make sure they won’t pierce through anything on inside cover. Place over top of back cover (green, inside panel facing up). Trace holes with pencil, then punch. Insert metal rings through holes to attach front and back covers. Tie magenta ribbon over hinges and knot. Cut pointed ends. Tie lime green wired ribbon over top of each and knot. Cut V-slits in ends.

7. Cut rectangle from remaining floral CS. Layer photo on top and attach to inside back cover using Pro with extreme adhesive cartridge. Cut svg flourish from white cardstock and attach to inside back cover using 2-way glue. Use adhesive squares to fold brown ribbon and attach beneath flowers. Layer flowers on top then use adhesive pearls in the center.

8. Add additional pages to album using chipboard covered with solid or patterned papers, embellished as you desire to complete album. I left the back of the album plain, however you can add a date in which it was created or a special note if creating as a gift. This was my gift to myself as a cherished keepsake of photos with me and my girls.

Celebrate with a Spring Canvas!

It's been such an amazing week of projects showcasing GlueArts and My Little Shoebox!

Today is no exception!

Designers Patti Milazzo and Cheri Wenger both have just what you need! A sweet spring canvas and card! Make the canvas and card and give these to someone special!!

Spring Canvas

Tip: As I work on projects and cut up my U-Cut-It Adhesive Foam, I often have small pieces left over. Instead of discarding even the smallest pieces, I’ll place them into one of the 3 Pack Cartridge containers that I’ve kept…they’re great for storage! Then on my next project, I’ll look through my container for the foam size that I need before cutting a new sheet.

Home Tweet Home Pattern Paper – Birds of a Feather, A Place to Nest, Cotton Candy, Out on a Limb and Birdhouse

Other: 8” x 10” canvas, glitter glue and buttons


Instructions:
1. Cut pattern paper to cover canvas. Distress edges and use Glue Glider Pro with Perma Tac Adhesive to apply paper to canvas.
2. Cut blocks of pattern paper to segment the paper covered surface of the canvas. I knew that I wanted to use the branch and tree stickers so I created those blocks first. I then cut a block to fit the journal shape and filled in the rest of the space as needed.

3. Cut pattern paper to be framed by each of the blocked paper pieces. Then apply stickers or images cut from pattern paper. Add stitching if you wish. Use Glue Arts U-Cut-It Adhesive foam to layer these pieces and create a dimension.

4. Use Extreme Micro Squares to attach buttons or other dimensional accents.

5. Apply glitter glue for a little extra sparkle to complete.

Spring Branch Card

Supplies:

Adhesive: Glue Arts’ Glue Glider™ Pro with High Tac Adhesive and Micro Adhesive Squares

Cardstock: (The Paper Co.) 8-1/2” x 11” Mustard CS; (My Little Shoebox) Home Tweet Home Collection: A Place to Nest and Bird House CS

Cutters & Punches: (EK Success) PSN LE Circles; (Fiskars) Paper and scissors

Stickers: (My Little Shoebox) Home Tweet Home Cardstock Stickers

Ribbon: (May Arts)

Flowers: (Prima) Very Orange “Iced Got Flowers?”

Other Supplies: (Recollections) Small Adhesive Pearls and small red button

Instructions:

1.  Cut mustard cardstock in half to make card. Score and fold in half.

2.  Cut Bird House Cloud pattern CS to 5-1/4” x 2-15/16”. Apply two rows of high tac adhesive along bottom of CS and wrap green ribbon around back, securing with a few micro adhesive squares.

3.  Cut 5-1/4” x 2” piece of striped CS with stripes running horizontally. Punch circle border and attach a piece of white CS to back side to cover up the holes. Save some of the punched out striped circles for later use. Attach this panel to the back side of ribbon wrapped panel using Glue Glider™ Pro with high tac adhesive. Attach those panels to card front.

4.  Peel off clouds and branch sticker and apply all to top portion of card. Birdhouses will hang over top of ribbon. Add small yellow bird stickers. Trim end of branch even with right side of card.

5. Attach dotted daisy flower to middle circle using mini adhesive squares. Layer striped punched circle and red button on top using mini adhesive squares.

6. Add tiny flowers with mini adhesive squares on top of branch sticker. Place adhesive pearls in the centers.

It's Time for My Little Shoebox!!

We're excited to share with you our first partnership with My Little Shoebox! My Little Shoebox was founded by Helen Chu. Helen has grown up in her parent's garment factory and found her self surrounded by fabric, laces and more! Her father's love of photography and Helen's keen interest in clothing, fabrics and design helped inspire Helen back in 2005 to start My Little Shoebox. Helen's goal was for people to take all their precious photos out of their "little shoeboxes" and turn those memories into priceless keepsakes for generations to come! Helen definitely has the right idea!!!

My Little Shoebox has bright, fun, whimsical lines with themes from Farmer's Market to Garden Party and what many of our gals will be designing with...Home Tweet Home just to name a few of their new lines!

Over the next two weeks we'll be sharing several guest designers from My Little Shoebox, a surprise guest designer and of course amazing projects from our talented Glue Girls and more!!!

Generations of Love Layout

Designer: Lindsay Wahl 

Supplies:
• Glue Arts Adhesives: 3-d combo pac, Adhesive squares, Glue Glider Pro (High Tac)
• My Little Shoebox “Home Tweet Home” collection
• Alphabet stickers: American Crafts
• Buttons: Doodlebug
• Die Cuts: Cricut (Accent Essentials)
 

Instructions:
1. Die cut flowers using Cricut machine (1 1/2" and 1" flowers). Assemble paper layers and button with Adhesive Squares and set aside.
2. Cut die cut patterned paper into fourths. Cut a base for a tree.
3. Use the Pro to adhere the tree trunk to the background paper and the foam adhesive to adhere the tree top.
4. Add your photos. They should be 4”x 6”, 3” square and 2” square. Use the Pro to adhere the two larger photos, and use the foam adhesive to give the 2” square photo added dimension. Leave room for borders under the 4”x 6” photo.
5. Trim three die cut border strips; adhere them below the largest photo using the Pro.
6. Add the sticker tree branch to the tree. Add the title so that it fits around the branch.
7. Adhere small journaling block using the Pro. Add journaling and alpha stickers.
8. Use Adhesive Squares to adhere all of the flowers to the page.

Instructions:
1. Apply border strip across top of page and layer bird on birdhouse sticker on top.
2. Trace around lunch plate on A Place to Nest CS. Trim with cutting knife. Edge with brown ink then layer onto scallop CS using Pro and high tac.
3. Figure placement for your two photos, then cut strip of pink border to add to right of photo and under sticker. Attach using Pro and add flower sticker on top.
Add photo to the left of the pink border strip.
4. Attach layered scallop CS from step 2 using Pro. This will be placed over top of your photo so be sure to select an image where important details won’t be covered up by the paper. Position 2nd photo aligning top right corner with top left corner of 1st photo. (Designer's Note: photos were trimmed down in size from 4" x 6" to 4-5/8" in height.
5. Use mini adhesive squares to attach thin metallic ribbon down left side of ledger tag. Add journaling with brown marker. Attach below photo at an angle using Pro.

6. Cut (4) 1/2" x 2-1/2" strips of striped CS. Place onto roll of extreme mini adhesive squares and bend to create paper loops. Add additional squares to top and bottom of each loop to tac onto layout below flower sticker in the corner of photo and top of journaling tag.

7.Attach glitter stickers to create title. Use flower sticker for dot above i and add pink polka dot button using adhesive squares on back of button. Finish off title by creating an arc of adhesive pearls below the word smiles for whimsy. Add tree sticker to right of the word bring.

8. Create loops of lace ribbon and metallic ribbon and attach to layout with mini adhesive squares below floral circle diecut. Create dimension by using U-Cut-It foam to raise up the circle and layer on top of loops in top left corner of left photo. Finish off by layering crocheted blue posie and 2nd pink button.

The name of my entry is : Crayon Car Holder.. I did it because my son always leaves his crayon in different places, and then he cannot find them.. I decided to make something funny for him. Now he can keep all his stuff in just one place, and he can move it wherever he wants.

Jiuliana used recycled water bottles and cans along with Glue Arts Adhesive Squares to make this adorable holder for her sons' pencils and crayons!!  We'll be sharing Jiuliana's full step by step tutorial  this weekend along with other projects that caught our eye as well!

Dress Up Your Lampshade!!

So....are you a Recycler?

Do you have a hard time throwing things out?

Do you often find yourself thinking of new ways to use an old item around your home?

Button Up Your Lampshade in 3 easy steps!

Supplies:

Glue Arts Extreme Adhesive Squares

Assorted Button Shapes and Sizes to layer & coordinate with your color scheme

Old Lamp Shade in need of some dressing up

Designer Note: You know we Glue Girls love to provide inspiration to you, but we also look for inspiration from others as well. This "makeover" home craft was inspired by a project I saw a few years back on Better Homes and Gardens website. It immediately made me think of my daughter’s lamp which although modern and neutral, needed some excitement added to it to liven it up for her tropical beachy bedroom.

Lamp Shade "Before Instructions (Create in 30 minutes or less)

1. Lay out all the buttons you purchased for the project on a sheet of paper and start stacking and pairing them up. Once you’ve decided on the layering, attach the top buttons to the bottom ones using Extreme Adhesive Squares."

2. Start adding buttons to lamp shade, turning as you go and making sure you have a good balance of color and sizes. If you just lightly place them onto the shade, you should be able to remove and reposition. 

3. Once you are happy with positioning of all the buttons, press firmly onto the shade supporting it with your hand on the inside of the shade.

Designer’s Tip: You can use some of the other amazing Glue Arts adhesives, i.e. Ribbon Adhesive to add ribbons, fringe, ric rac and trims to dress up even further. Or if you are a bling girl, use micro extreme adhesive squares to add rhinestones, pearls or metal charms. My daughter was happy with just the buttons so I left it at that. Don't tell her, but I may go back when she’s asleep and add some raffia fringe around the bottom with my Glue Arts hot glue gun. Shhh!

GlueArts invites crafters to celebrate National Craft Month by submitting an original crafted project using recycled, repurposed or reusable items and at least one GlueArts product for a chance to win a prize package worth $250.


Projects must contain at least one recycled, repurposed or reusable item and at least one GlueArts product (see products at www.gluearts.com).  Submissions must include a photo and a description of project.  Contestants should include a photo on the description page (contestant names should not appear on photos). Descriptions must include a materials list and how the GlueArts product(s) was used.   Project photos must include the GlueArts product that was used.  

All project photos and descriptions must be submitted by March 18 to gluegirl@gluearts.com.
