A Gift for the Teacher

We're back for our second week of working with the ever so fun My Little Shoebox products.

This week we have a great mix of layouts, cards and home decor ideas for you to get you thinking about outside the box...well the cereal box that is!

Up first...Designer Lindsay Wahl made the sweetest Spring Birdhouse that would be a welcome addition to your home! And Lesley Langdon is recycling, reusing turning a household item into the cutest gift box we've seen in a while! Don't you agree??

"Beautiful Spring" Birdhouse
Designer: Lindsay Wahl

Supplies:
• Glue Arts Adhesives: 3-d combo pac, Adhesive Squares, Glue Glider Max (Perma Tac), Glue Glider Pro (High Tac)
• My Little ShoeBox “Home Tweet Home” collection
• Birdhouse
• Buttons: Doodlebug
• Die Cuts: Cricut (Accent Essentials)
• Punches: EK Success

Instructions:
1. This project will obviously vary depending on what type of birdhouse you decide to use. Begin by measuring the background paper to fit all sides and the roof of the birdhouse. This is the most tedious part, especially punching the holes. I used a 1” circle punch after measuring where the holes should go.
2. Use the Glue Glider Max to adhere all of the background and roof papers to the birdhouse.
3. Punch borders from various strips of patterned paper. Use the Glue Glider Pro to adhere these borders around the bottom of the birdhouse, as well as the roof line around the entire birdhouse. Trim as needed.
4. Die cut flower border from Accent Essentials. Use Pro to adhere it around the openings of the birdhouse.
5. Cut trees, clouds, birds and flowers from patterned paper. Use the 3-d combo pac to begin adhering these embellishments to your birdhouse. For some of the trees, I doubled up the foam adhesive to give added dimension. Use adhesive squares to adhere the buttons.
6. Add the title and enjoy!
*If this birdhouse is going to be handled quite a bit, I’d recommend using a decoupage adhesive (like Mod Podge) to seal it.*

Cereal Box Gift Holder
Designer: Lesley Langdon

I saw this idea in a magazine and thought it was an amazing idea! Instead of making your own box out of cardstock, why not take a sturdy box that was headed to recycling, cut it to size, cover it with patterned paper and dress it all up! You just need some ribbon, a hole punch and you are good to go to that PARTY! I guarantee you, these kind of gift boxes will be used over and over again. No one would want to throw them out!

Supplies:
Glue Arts Glue Glider MAX with Perma Tac Adhesive
Glue Arts 3D UCut It Foam
Glue Arts Hot Glue Gun
My Little Shoebox (Paper, Cardstock Stickers, Alphas, Die Cut Borders and Label)
May Arts Ribbon
Big Bite Crop-a-Dile by We R Memory Keepers (hole punch)

Instructions:
1. Use an old cereal box, cut off top portion with scissors, cover with My Little Shoebox patterned paper using Glue Arts Glue Glider MAX perma tac adhesive.
2. Make rolled flowers out of patterned papers by die cutting circles and scalloped circles (Spellbinders), the cutting a swirl circular pattern from the outside all the way to the center, leaving a piece of paper in the middle (size of a quarter). Start rolling from the outside in, and hot glue the flower on the bottom and cover with the quarter size remainder of paper.
3. Use the Glue Arts Hot Glue Gun to hot glue flowers to the box, creating 2 layers. Hand cut cardstock leaves, and hot glue those as well.
4. Punch holes in sides of box, string through ribbon and tie knots. Hot glue a flower to the ribbon handle.
5. Adhere borders around the box and adhere ribbon with hot glue. Attach sticker birdhouse and piece of patterned paper for the birdhouse stand.
6. For the back of the box, adhere the label with Glue Arts UCutIt 3D foam. Adhere apple sticker and alphas.

So what is your favorite My Little Shoebox line? What GlueArts product can you not live without??

It's Time for My Little Shoebox!!

We're excited to share with you our first partnership with My Little Shoebox! My Little Shoebox was founded by Helen Chu. Helen has grown up in her parent's garment factory and found her self surrounded by fabric, laces and more! Her father's love of photography and Helen's keen interest in clothing, fabrics and design helped inspire Helen back in 2005 to start My Little Shoebox. Helen's goal was for people to take all their precious photos out of their "little shoeboxes" and turn those memories into priceless keepsakes for generations to come! Helen definitely has the right idea!!!

My Little Shoebox has bright, fun, whimsical lines with themes from Farmer's Market to Garden Party and what many of our gals will be designing with...Home Tweet Home just to name a few of their new lines!

Over the next two weeks we'll be sharing several guest designers from My Little Shoebox, a surprise guest designer and of course amazing projects from our talented Glue Girls and more!!!

Wow! Were we ever impressed and amazed by all the entries we received for our Recycle, Reuse & Repurpose Challenge! We definitely have some very creative fans! We would like to thank our Guest Judges:

Marisa Pawelko
Amy Anderson
Jenny Barnett Rohrs

Our winner described her project as this:

The name of my entry is : Crayon Car Holder.. I did it because my son always leaves his crayon in different places, and then he cannot find them.. I decided to make something funny for him. Now he can keep all his stuff in just one place, and he can move it wherever he wants.

Congrats go out to Jiuliana Tello!!!!

Jiuliana used recycled water bottles and cans along with Glue Arts Adhesive Squares to make this adorable holder for her sons' pencils and crayons!!  We'll be sharing Jiuliana's full step by step tutorial  this weekend along with other projects that caught our eye as well!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate and Recycle, Reuse and Repurpose!

Care to Join in a Book or a Game of Tic-Tac-Toe?

Sometimes finding inspiration is as simple as walking around your house.

Picking up this or that and thinking about a new way you can use that.

Designers Patti Milazzo and Lindsay Wahl took common items...a book and a pair of jeans that were worn out and created two unique items that will be treasured whether you're lounging in bed with a favorite book or cup of tea or headed out and need something to keep a little one busy with!

Here are today's Recycle, Reuse & Repurpose projects ....

Fabric Covered Book Tray
Designer: Patti Milazzo

For my project, I decided to repurpose an outdated hardcover craft book into a fabric covered tray. I used both the Extreme Adhesive Squares and the Glue Glider Pro with the Fabric Bond Adhesive to affix the material, the painted wooden ball feet as well as the ribbon and floral accents that I created to embellish the tray.

Designer Tip:
Use a medium to heavy weight material to protect the book if you intend to preserve the book for continued use. The lightweight canvas that I used will also prevent any patterns on the original book face from showing through.

Supplies:
Glue Arts:
Glue Glider Pro with
FabricBond Cartridge Refill- Pro
Extreme Adhesive Squares
Extreme Micro Squares
May Arts Ribbon and Trim
Other: Hardcover book; enough fabric to cover the book (less than ¼ yard); buttons or other accents for flowers

Instructions:
1. Open up the book being used and cut the material about 3” – 4” larger on all sides.
2. To secure the material, start by apply the Extreme Adhesive Squares to the binding of the book first.
Tip: Remove the labeling on the Extreme Adhesive Squares roll or tear off a strip long enough to cover the binding for easy application here.
3. Place the closed book about 3” from the right edge of the material, then fold the material over the book pressing the binding into the fold.
4. Apply more Extreme Adhesive Squares to the back cover of the book and press the material over the surface evenly to prevent any wrinkling. Repeat this for the back cover of the book as well.
5. To secure the material inside, open the cover (front or back) and again apply more Extreme Adhesive Squares about ever few inches. I also applied the Fabric Bond Adhesive with the Glue Glider Pro where the fabric would meet fabric once it was folded over. Once all the adhesive is applied, fold over the fabric to wrap the corners. Use an iron where the Fabric Bond was applied to permanently affix the fabric.
6. For the ends of the binding, trim fabric to 1”; apply an Extreme Adhesive Square and fold fabric over tucking it into the edge of the binding as tightly as possible.
7. For the tray feet, adhere 4 – 1” painted wood doll heads (one side is flat) to the bottom (back) of the book – space evenly at the corners.
8. Tie the book closed on one side with ribbon. Use the Extreme Adhesive Squares to secure the ribbon as you tie it and if you layer ribbon as I did.
9. Create several flowers from various May Arts ribbon and trim by using a gathered stitch. Then layer the flowers using Extreme Adhesive Squares (Regular and Mini). Also use the Extreme Adhesive Squares to apply buttons and other decorative accents to the center of each flower and to attach them to the ribbon tied onto the book.
With the tray complete, it can serve as a place to rest a hot beverage or simply as a decorative item on which you can display other home accessories.

Tic Tac Tote
Designer: Lindsay Wahl

My daughter, Lauren, has been on a tic-tac-toe kick lately. I decided to create this little bag so she could take her game along with her. I recycled a pair of my husband's jeans that were falling apart!

Supplies:
Glue Arts Adhesives: Extreme Squares, Glue Glider Pro Fabric Bond Cartridge
Sizzix die cuts: "Booklet, Purse & Pages," "Flower Layers #4," "Serif" font
Buttons: Doodlebug
Felt (scraps from my stash)
Foam: Creative Hands (scraps)
Jeans
Ribbon (scraps from my stash)
Velcro circle

Instructions:
1. Begin by die cutting purse and insert from jeans. Decide which side you want to be the outside of the tote. Set aside insert for now. Die cut four flowers from felt. Die cut five each of the letters "x" and "o" from foam. I also die cut an initial from foam for the outside of the purse.
2. Use ribbon scraps to create the tic-tac-toe grid on the inside of the denim purse. Two strips should be 3.5", and two should be 4.5" in length. Use Pro and Fabric Bond adhesive to adhere grid. Iron the ribbon to set adhesive.
3. Turn the purse over, and create the front. Use the Fabric Bond adhesive to add the ribbon accents. Adhere one flower with the Fabric Bond also. Iron to set the adhesive. To finish the flower, use the Extreme Squares on a second flower layer. Finally, add Extreme Squares to the foam initial and adhere.
4. Use the Extreme Squares to add the button on the flap of the purse. Adhere the velcro closure to the purse.
5. Now, it's time to create the pocket that will hold all of the pieces. Use the die cut denim insert. Add Fabric Bond to two sides of the insert. Close to form the pocket. Iron to set.
6. On the outside of the pocket, use the Fabric Bond to add the ribbon accents and one of the felt flower layers. Iron to set. Use the Extreme Squares to adhere the second flower layer and the button. Fill the pocket with the "x" and "o" pieces.
7. Ready, set, play!

I am in love...
Designer: Lindsay Wahl

Supplies:
Glue Arts Adhesives: 3-d combo pac, Adhesive Squares, Glue Glider Pro Perma Tac, Mini Adhesive Squares, Ribbon adhesive
Little Yellow Bicycle Cupcake Love: 6x6 Decorative edge cardstock, Canvas borders, Chipboard shapes, Epoxy chipboard buttons, Heart stick pins, Journal tablet, Patterned paper

Other:
Alpha stickers: American Crafts, Cosmo Cricket
Cardstock: Bazzill
Ink: Copic
Punch: Marvy
Ribbon: May Arts

Instructions:
1. Begin with one 4"x 6" photo and six 2"x 2" photos (I made five of them black and white so they'd stand out).
2. Cut canvas border in half horizontally. Adhere bottom half 1/2" from the bottom of the page. Use ribbon adhesive (I used two strips because of the width of the ribbon) to adhere the ribbon approximately 2" above the canvas border. Now adhere the scalloped half of the canvas border. The scallops should touch the middle seam of the ribbon.
3. Adhere the 2"x 2" photos using the Pro. For the color photo, I backed the photo with a piece of patterned paper that was 2 1/2" square. I used the Pro to adhere the photo to the paper. Then, I used the UcutIt foam to make this photo stand out from the page.
4. Adhere your 4"x 6" photo to the scalloped journaling circle with the Pro. Adhere both pieces to the cardstock, approximately 1" from the right edge of the page.
5. Ink the edges of the February die cut and adhere with UcutIt foam. Add journaling.
6. Adhere the buttons to the side of the photo. I used the Mini Adhesive Squares on the buttons, but I raised every 3rd button with a piece of the UcutIt foam. It just gives added dimension and interest. Repeat this with the buttons at the top left corner and bottom right corner of the page. I also added two buttons to the small color 2" square photo.
7. Using Adhesive Squares, adhere chipboard title "love" to the page. Add alphabet letters to complete the title.
8. Add heart pins to the ribbon.
